Orion Challenge

The 1st Rivorton Rover Crew hosted four Venturer Companies at the Greer Creek Youth Camp for the Orion Challenge this past weekend. Our guests included 1st Lincoln Lighthouse Venturers, 1st Gondola Point Venturers, 2nd Nashwaaksis Venturers and 3rd & 7th Fredericton Venturers. The Venturers arrived Friday evening and constructed their shelters for the weekend before enjoying a movie in the camp. The Rovers served breakfast on Saturday and then the Venturers spent part of the morning working on their campsite. Each Company was tasked with making a flag for their site in their spare time. Then it was time to divide into teams and start the various challenges; weaponry, first aid, orienteering, fire starting/water boil. Each Company was given a secret ingredient to add to their supper and off they went to prepare supper. After their own supper, the Rovers visited each Company to judge their camp site and their meal. Once it got dark enough the Rovers organized a wide game. The evening ended with a campfire. The Rovers provided breakfast again Sunday morning, invested one of their new members and then closed the camp with a Scouts Own and a review of the weekend. By all accounts the Venturers, Scouters and Rovers all had a great time and everyone is looking forward to next year’s Orion.
