Area Commissioner - Fundy East Area

The New Brunswick Council of Scouts Canada invites applications for the volunteer position of Area Commissioner of the Fundy East Area. The Fundy East Service Area comprises the Towns of Rothesay, Quispamsis and Sussex.

The Area Commissioner reports directly to the Commissioner of the New Brunswick Council and is responsible for

  • Providing support through a Service Team to the Scouting groups in the Southeast NB Service Area

  • Providing training opportunities for adult volunteers working with Scouting groups

  • Encouraging the expansion of the number of Scouting groups in the Area

  • Ensuring compliance with procedures for screening new adult volunteers as set by Scouts Canada

  • Overseeing the quality of youth programming offered in the Area

  • Acting as a catalyst for youth input at the Area level

  • Providing support in the preparation of Area camps and special events

  • Working with the Council Commissioner, the Council Executive Director and the Council Youth Commissioner in dealing with personnel and administrative issues that may arise in the Area.

The individual is appointed and reappointed annually by the Council Commissioner in consultation with the members of the Southeast NB Service Area. The Area Commissioner shall normally hold office for three (3) consecutive years.

Applications or nominations should be sent to Kerri Daamen, Council Commissioner for New Brunswick, at Applicants should submit: a) a resumé to include a section outlining previous Scouting involvement; b) a cover letter indicating what the applicant could bring to the position and why he or she is interested in the role. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Two or more years’ experience as a Leader in Scouting

  • A completed Wood Badge Part I basic training in Canadian Path

  • A willingness to undertake further personal development related to a role as Area Commissioner

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills

  • Modeled positive behaviours appropriate to Scouting

We will accept candidates who are currently registered members of Scouts Canada and also candidates who are not currently members.
